Silent Auction Items

Welcome to the Keep It Rural Silent Auction Web Page!

On Father’s Day, June 15th, the Keep It Rural Coalition (KIRC) having a music fest, silent auction and kids crafts sale.  KIRC is raising funds to support a legal challenge to the commercial development permit that Leon County has granted for gas station and convenience store at the corner of Crump and Miccosukee Road.  KIRC believes that this permit is not consistent with the Leon County/Tallahassee Comprehensive Plan – the legal blueprint for protecting the environmental and economic health of our community and our quality of life.

KIRC has been active from the get-go, using every means of public involvement.  As soon as this business proposal began its permitting process, Keep it Rural organizers activated the community, packed the hearings, held rallies, informed the press, lobbied the Leon County commission- ers and the county’s permitting officials. We printed fliers, petitioned neighbors, and spread the word. The response has been overwhelmingly powerful.  But County staff approved the permit anyway.

So now is the time for even more conviction. Your Keep it Rural organizers (a core group of a half-dozen average citizens) have personally contributed over $10,000 to begin the appeal, but much more is needed. We have retained a top-shelf land use attorney, and we have filed the initial appeal. Documents, forms, filings, and deadlines must be done exactly as required by law. Expert witnesses will be necessary to dispute the Leon County staff’s interpretation and application of law.  It involves hearings with legal representation in front of a Special Master (similar to an Administrative Judge) , the Board of County Commissioners (BCC), and possibly the Circuit Court.

All of this comes with a price, and the process is extensive. We need your support.  This is why Keep it Rural is asking you to pitch in and help support our, your! cause.

Come to the American Legion Hall on June 15th and get yourself some great art work, vacation spots, services and more!  All of the proceeds will go to KIRC legal defense fund.
